Lewes made the long journey to Hailsham for this evenings game. There was much deliberation about which colour ball to use, however eventually the match was underway!
Hailsham started by far the brighter of the two teams, and were rewarded for their early dominance. Alex Smythe receiving the assist from Headey before scoring from a tight angle.
Hailsham sat off following this, and Lewes began to establish themselves in the game. The defending was resolute, however could not hold as a high ball into the D was mistrapped by Bailey Morgan Freeman Jones and left for the Lewes player to finish.
1-1 HT
The second half began, and Hailsham were once again probing. Some excellent pressing by Josh Hoggs and Kieran Gerr led to some opportunities for the home side, but they were not at their best in front of goal today. Floriz Peach, playing on a broken toe, still covered more ground than Mo Farah, however could not find the much needed goal.
In fact it was the away team that took the lead. A rare counter attack led to a chance on the reverse from the top of the D. The Lewes forward slid the ball past Bryan More with an excellent finish.
At 2-1 down, Hailsham continued to push for an equaliser. Unfortunately for the hosts, Luke Haze was flattened by a Lewes forward, which has ended with a broken collar bone and a trip to A and E.
While he was being treated, star man J Heady had to leave to make it in time for his evening arrangements. The team floundered without him, and were unable to make up the deficit.
MoM J Hoggs for his excellent pressing and work rate
DoD J Headey, or Heady, or Hedley? For leaving early.
