Men's 1s vs Brighton & Hove M3

They say lightning doesn’t strike twice!? But after two weeks in the South East division one league Hailsham have won twice and yet had their result submitted incorrectly twice!

The rest of the league are currently unaware that we are in fact top of the league! (Yes ok south Saxons haven’t played and technically they could go top if they score a boatload blab blab blab - shut up Ryan). But we are top ok. We are top!

After a deluge of rain all week we were blessed with gorgeous sunshine on the ever familiar Brighton pitch. No longer playing the 5ths, 6ths or 7ths but their 3rds! A potential challenge perhaps?

With nearly a full side available bar a golfing wannabe the side began the match with a reasonable amounts of confidence following lasts weeks destruction of Southwick.

We started a bit slow and a few passes went astray initially but soon the ball started making its way around the team with the grace and flair the team has come to expect. Some excellent runs and dribbles from Jamie Hayes helped secure some penalty corners which just happened to become the flavour of the day for us. First goal came to Flo after Jamie did literally all the hard work and the ball bounced up in the before being taken to the back of the goal (1-0).

Another corner and a straight strike from Jamie found the bottom left corner. Our only open play goal of the day came from another star dazzling dribble from Jamie before he had the luxury of taking a short or passing to either Hailsham player waiting on either post. A highly professional play finished by Aiden who had the tap in. 3-0 at half time but we still weren’t at our best.

Half time we discussed marking and areas for improvements and we started the second half with the best intentions. We had a few scares but somehow managed to continue to find penalty corners. Another goal for Flo from a gk rebound error flicked into the back of the net. 4-0 and Hailsham were looking more comfortable.

This was short lived as Flo (aka DOD) decided to pass it straight to their forward who ran straight past him and slotted their first of the match. Whoops!

Can’t remember which way round the last two went in but Flo finished off another scrambled goal line effort to score his third before Brighton were unfairly awarded a p.corner which eventually led to a p.flick.

5-2 us in the end and we are still finding our feet but yet getting some decent results.

Somehow doing a forward roll on the pitch, getting sent off, giving away a stroke or naming yourselves mom isnt enough to be awarded dod but you make one bad pass……

lol.

Onwards and upwards for us as we take on Horsham 3s next week who we lost to twice last season.

I smell revenge
