Men's 1s vs East Grinstead M3

The sham travelled to the premier club of the south - East Grinstead. EG fielded a stronger side than the team we beat at home and they also came with a full bench. We were missing a few sadly which on the first real hot day of the year made the difference in the end. 

A tyre wall got the better of Jamie ‘a technical issue I promise’ Hayes and we lost another forward Josh ‘I went for the doggie biscuits at krufts’ smith-jones. 

This left Flo and Sam as forwards. Sam was clearly hoping to break his duck of zero goals this season. Did he score? Let’s head into the match ….

No, no he didn’t! Even with a clear one on one with the keeper he left the attack with a green card rather than the goal we needed. 

Yes we took the match to them and we had a number of chances. However they were really good on the day and had much more possession overall and it was no real surprise that they scored first. However this was soon returned by a goal from Flo who had the simple tap in from a broken down short corner. 

1-1 at this stage but two more goals a piece came before half time. Was it from Sam? 

No, no it was not. It relied again for Flo to score another goal from near the right post but only because of the stunning run from Alex. He did not only defend superbly but also made several lovely attacking runs which ended up creating several good opportunities for tap ins. Flo missed several which contributed to the DoD votes. That and the fact he also deflected the ball into his own face towards the end of the match! However that technically was another shot on goal and more than Sam attempted 🤔 

The match could have gone either way and in reality they were really good. We did well to keep the match competitive. The defence on the day was excellent and the boys at the back did just enough each time to prevent them from converting. 

The gents in midfield worked tirelessly and did an insane amount of work. 

A few more subs and the match would have gone the other way.
