Great to be back at the Uni of Sussex’s pitch, this time with Hailsham Men’s 2’s facing Lewes 5’s. It was also the debut match of 2 new players, not only to the Men’s 2’s but to hockey - so great to have them along!

Hailsham won the toss, so kicked off the match with their push back. Lewes pulled an early lead with an open play goal, but Hailsham quickly retaliated with a goal from a short corner by Connor Agnew.

A goal by Dan Ruthven gave Hailsham a boost with a 2-1 lead, running with the ball from the halfway line to do a baseline drive and scored from open play. The lead didn’t last long, however, with Lewes breaking through Hailsham’s defence and equalising half time, 2-2.

The second half of the match, Hailsham held their own against Lewes and had some opportunities with short corners, but it was not meant to be. A goal from Lewes took them into the lead 3-2. Hailsham tried to claw back an equaliser but, with the whistle blowing as Lewes set up for a short, final score was 3-2.

Some great hockey played today, with clear progression in some key areas identified last match, but still a ways to go. Overall, great work team!
