This week Hailsham won two of five. It was a real family affair this week with the Smith and Cable families scoring 7 goals across five players and two generations.

The men’s 1st team won away 4-2 with a solid performance on the counter attack with A. Smith (pictured), K. Gurr, P. Smith and G. Cyster all getting on the score sheet this week.

Hailsham’s other win came from the Millers who played Lewes away. F. Cable and S. Cable scored two each to win 4-0.

Both 2nd teams faced Brighton sides and both lost by just a single goal. The men’s 2s lost 1-0 to current league leaders Brighton 5s in what was reportedly their toughest test yet, a great indicator of where the men’s 2s are at this season.

The ladies 2s also lost to a Brighton side. This was also another tough contest and Hailsham managed to put two on the board with goals from C. Hoad and K. Agnew. Unfortunately Brighton scored three to take all the points from this encounter.

The ladies 1st team had an optimistic start scoring first against the run of play with S.Cable taking a superb well struck goal. Havant came back stronger and managed to score six with the game ending 6-1. Despite the scoreline Hailsham had some positive passages of play and continued to work hard until the final whistle.

Hailsham’s ladies 2s faced the long journey to Chichester on Saturday. The game saw just a single goal with Hailsham taking the win. As shown the ball was passed across the D by C.Duff and confidently put away by L.Meacher. The 1-0 win sees Hailsham leapfrog Chichester to 5th in Sussex Div 2.

The men’s 2nd team had a morning start away to Worthing 4s. The team came away with a 2-2 draw with C.Cable scoring both of Hailsham’s goals. Both were the result of penalty corners with assists coming from S. Baldwin for both.

Starting at home were the ladies 1s who were taking on bottom of the league Tulse Hill & Dulwich. Hailsham had some early chances but failed to capitalise. Tulse Hill & Dulwich managed to find the Hailsham goal twice before the end of the first half before the rain caused the pitch to become difficult and slow. Both keepers were kept busy with both teams having opportunities to score more. The game ended 2-0 to the travelling team.

With the weather conditions worsening and the rain setting in for the afternoon the men’s and Millers matches had to be abandoned due to the level of surface water.

So this weekend we saw contrasting outcomes between those home and away. Those at home this weekend saw wins all round. Ladies 2s opened things with a great 2-0 win against local rivals Eastbourne 3s. A great result considering Eastbourne have only lost one other game this season. G.Crouch scored both goals. The men’s 2s also faced Eastbourne and won with a convincing 5-1 scoreline. Scorers T. Hayes, R. Baldwin and three from C. Cable.

The Hailsham teams that played away this week had less luck with the men losing 1-0 to Blackheath 2s and ladies 5-0 against Barnes 2.

Also a shout out to the ladies 2s who hosted the first club fundraiser social on Saturday night. This raised £242 for the club and great fun was had by all. 👍 Next club social is the Christmas social. Get Saturday 7th December in your diaries!

A mix of results from today’s matches. The men’s 1st team were triumphant 5-1 winners with goals shared with S. Headey (pictured), P. Smith, A. Smith, J. Hayes and D. Channing all making the scorers column on the team sheet.

The ladies 1st were less fortunate with a 1-2 loss at home with a goal from N.Boyd in the first half. Hailsham were first to score but conceded shortly after and then remained level for much of the match with Winchester’s winner coming in the final part of the second half.

The ladies 2nds after their great start to the season lost to Burgess Hill 3-1. Hailsham’s goal came from recent returnee G. Dudley.
