Both men’s teams won this weekend. The first team travelled away to Gillingham and went 2-0 down after twenty minutes. Hailsham came back fighting with a notable contribution from A. Smith up front. Hailsham scored three goals from short corners; S. Headey & G. Cyster scoring from flicks and a Headey assist for Cyster for the third. C.Cable finished the game off with a forth to take the win. The game finished 4-2 to Hailsham.

The men’s 2s played Lewes 4s and were 2-0 up at half time. They finished the game as 3-1 winners with goals from J.Hayes and two from T. Hayes both from short corners.

The ladies 1st team travelled away to Horsham. The ladies kept it tight and went into the interval level with no goals to either team. Hailsham conceded in the second half, first goal to a penalty flick followed shortly by a difficult looping ball from open play. Whilst Hailsham had their chances including a disallowed goal, Horsham proved too strong and the game finished 2-0 to the home side. The game officially marks the mid way point of the season with the team having faced all their opponents once.

The Millers fixture was called off due to a frozen pitch. The ladies 2s were awarded the win this week as their opposition were unable to field a team.

At home this week the ladies 1s had the tough task of playing current league leaders Fareham. Hailsham soaked up the pressure from the off and managed to take the lead with a goal on the counter attack with N. Boyd calmly lifting the ball over the opposition keeper. Hailsham kept a clean sheet in the first half and led the game going into the second half. Fareham fought back to get two goals in the second half. Despite some spirited play in the final ten minutes Hailsham failed to make it level. Hailsham 1, Fareham 2.

The men’s 1st team hosted Crawley in the second home match of the day. The weather was poor and Crawley took the initiative scoring first. Hailsham came back to win 3-1 with captain S. Headey (pictured) scoring two and youngster C.Cable the third.

Last home match of the day saw the Millers take on local rivals Eastbourne. Hailsham lost 3-1 with the goal from Hailsham coming from F. Cable from a penalty corner.

Away this week the men’s 2nd team also played Crawley. They 2nds had a less favourable result losing 7-0.

The ladies 2nd team travelled away to Horsham. A close game with Hailsham managing to get the only goal of the game from a penalty corner scored by captain K. Agnew.

This week Hailsham won two of five. It was a real family affair this week with the Smith and Cable families scoring 7 goals across five players and two generations.

The men’s 1st team won away 4-2 with a solid performance on the counter attack with A. Smith (pictured), K. Gurr, P. Smith and G. Cyster all getting on the score sheet this week.

Hailsham’s other win came from the Millers who played Lewes away. F. Cable and S. Cable scored two each to win 4-0.

Both 2nd teams faced Brighton sides and both lost by just a single goal. The men’s 2s lost 1-0 to current league leaders Brighton 5s in what was reportedly their toughest test yet, a great indicator of where the men’s 2s are at this season.

The ladies 2s also lost to a Brighton side. This was also another tough contest and Hailsham managed to put two on the board with goals from C. Hoad and K. Agnew. Unfortunately Brighton scored three to take all the points from this encounter.

The ladies 1st team had an optimistic start scoring first against the run of play with S.Cable taking a superb well struck goal. Havant came back stronger and managed to score six with the game ending 6-1. Despite the scoreline Hailsham had some positive passages of play and continued to work hard until the final whistle.
