Hailsham Ladies 1st Team have won the Sussex Hockey Association Ladies Premier League with one match remaining. The team who only gained promotion to the Sussex Premier league in the 2013/14 season have now gained promotion to the South Tier 3 for 2019/20. Hailsham who finished second last season had the title and promotion as their goal for the season and strong numbers across both teams this year helped make that a reality.
The team have already passed the 100 goal mark for 2018/19 with Nathalie Boyd contributing 54 goals after her summer’s World Cup winning England Masters success. Sue Cable continues to add to her club record adding 25 to her tally of nearly 300 club goals. At the other end of the pitch the defence can also boast having conceded just 20 goals which is the joint lowest in the league to date. New addition Helen Smith has had a great debut season for Hailsham between the posts helping to keep this number down.
The team is coached by England O35’s Masters manager Tony Hayes along with support from a number of the men’s section. Their dedication rain or shine certainly helped to keep the team on track throughout the season.
The club has benefitted from a number of new players this season adding to some longstanding members to make a strong committed line up. The team look forward to next season where it will face opposition from beyond Sussex in the South Tier 3 league.
